Paola Santiago and the River of Tears by Tehlor Kay Mejia

In Paola Santiago and the River of Tears, super into science and the facts Paola learns the reality that is a world of magic out there filled with the monster from her mom’s stories. When her best friend Emma goes missing she and her friend Dante go to the rescue because the adults are incapable of doing anything. Kids saving the day is honestly the best.

Paola was such a fun character to read as she dealt with questioning everything she believe in while doing anything to save Emma.

The world building was beautiful and I really appreciated the Spanish sprinkled throughout the story. It was interesting seeing Paola struggle with Spanish because it reminded me that there children of immigrants or Latinx decent who don’t know Spanish fluently. Paola reminded me of lots of people I know.

Overall this was a really fun story and I cannot wait to see where the next adventure takes Paola Santiago.
