Hollowpox: The Hunt for Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor #3) by Jessica Townsend

The third installment of the Nevermoor series couldn’t have come at a better time! Much like our own pandemic, the world of Nevermoor must face a pandemic that is affecting the WunAnimals of their world and making them savage.

The series of Nevermoor follows the story of Morrigan Crow, a former cursed child and second Wundersmith alive (that we know), as she tries to develop her powerful knack with the exclusive and magical Wunderous Society. With each book Morrigan learns more about her powers, the world around her and what it means to be a wundersmith. She also gets in heeps of trouble, but what isn’t a magical book without some mischievousness.

In Hollowpox, Morrigan finally begins lessons on how to be a wundersmith — even though no one wants her to. But life can never be easy for Morrigan, because the WunAnimals — animals who are like people — are growing sick and hurting other (think Zootopia). Soon the city is in quarantine, full of strikes, and people in power not willing to do things (much like 2020). A society of humans want to run WunAnimals out of society, and Morrigan learns what it means to stand with a movement or be part of one.

It’s hard to talk about the novel without spoiling too much.

If you love the Nevermoor series, Hollowpox is a must read! There are new characters, new baddies, and the reminder that kids can get things done!

I wonder if Townsend predicted 2020 because Nevermoor in Hollowpox was a direct reflection on what it happening in our society.

Overall, I absolutely loved Hollowpox, it was a bit slow in some points but it is clear (especially with that ending!) that Townsend is setting the ground work for something big in the world of Nevermoor! I’m desperate for book four!
